I really enjoy the outdoors and pursuing outdoor exercise. I love to run on the road and on the trails, I enjoy cycling and mountain biking and skiing. I would love someday to get into rock climbing and mountaineering. All of these things, I believe, are good gifts from the Lord that in which can find legitimate, wholesome enjoyment. I see in myself, however, that it is very easy to become addicted, as it were, to these things, and to find my identity in these things. When Christ comes to me and says, “Sell all your possessions, give to the poor, and come follow me,” I see him looking directly at my running shoes, my hiking gear, my skiing equipment, my cycling jerseys, and my bicycle. I must be willing to give up all these things for Jesus Christ. This paragraph from a recent blog from Jared Wilson hits too close to home.
